November 2024
November often blows in like a hurricane. Other times it lingers like the warmth of a sunny day. It’s a month that we reflect on our gratitude, family holidays, Homecoming football, as well the flip side that many days of November are bleary.
November is derived from the Latin novem, meaning nine. November was the ninth month of the year until Pompilius moved it when January and February were added to more accurately reflect the length of a year on earth.
The Beaver moon or Frost moon lights up the November sky & the Draconids and Orionid meteor showers excite the evening sky for our viewing pleasure. Scorpio and Sagittarius signs represent water and fire. Topaz and Citrine are the birthstones: both stones are calming and soothing.
Chrysanthemum is the flower of November, and this flower finds its glory with true Fall colors. “Mums” for short, a chrysanthemum’s colors carry special meanings: Red=love, White=purity & innocence, Yellow=slighted love.
November is also the Month of Remembrance
November is traditionally a time in which the Catholic community remembers those who have died. It is also related to the fact that the end of November is the end of the Liturgical Year, with a new year starting the First Sunday of Advent – the four-week preparation before Christmas. The Church uses the end of the year period as a time to for us to think of the end of life and the end of all things and the great hope that our earthly end is to transition into a new life in God’s heavenly reality. We give thanks to those who have gone before us and we pray and hold hope in their new life in heaven and our own desire to join them again one day.
Here’s an idea I ran across. On the table in the back you will find index cards for you to put a family member or friends’ name that has passed on and place it in the basket on the re-table on the wall next to our church entrance. On Sunday November 24th, we will conclude the Month of Remembrance by reading these names during the prayers of the people.
Have a beautiful and colorful November!

Happenings around Epiphany
We still have turnout in the mid-to-upper 30’s for Sunday service, with a few mid-to-upper 20’s thrown in.
The choir puts out a lovely sound – and beckons the congregation to join in to enhance the weekly organist’s music. We have a different priestly voice weekly to celebrate with and we have us, each other – the Epiphany family. Fellowship after service is vibrant and tasty.
Concerns are heard of when we will have a stationary priest, yet I hear and see that patience is being maintained and a hope is here. The Holy Spirit is working within these walls – just not maybe on our wanted schedule.
The Annual Yard Sale had a nice turnout, as well a large volunteer turnout, with a lovely day of weather. Kudos to each and everyone involved in the success. Each of you are appreciated for stepping up and stepping in. Cheers!!
- November 9th – Epiphany Clean Up Day – 8:00 a.m.
- November 10th – Congregational Meeting and Vestry Election.
- November 28th – Thanksgiving – TBD if dinner will be held.

“November”
by Margaret Morgan
Now it is November. Trees are nearly bare;
Red and gold and brown leaves
Scatter everywhere.
Dark now, are the mornings Cold and frosty too;
Damp and misty evenings
Chill us through and through.
Busy are all creatures, Winter food to hide:
Nests to make all cozy Warm and safe inside.
