October 2025
“First year sleep, second year creep, third year leap” is a gardening adage describing the typical growth cycle of newly planted trees, bushes, perennials, etc. A growing rhythm that’s “not just for gardening.”
In the first year, the focus is on root development and survival (“sleep”) developing and establishing a strong foundation in the new environment. Minimal visible growth, slow response to changes, yet this phase is crucial for long term health and the ability to survive.
Second year is (“creep”) focusing to build on the established root system- to support more growth. Slow but steady growth is now the key and the beginnings of visible expansion. Expectations begin to fill in space, but full maturity and potential is still awaiting.
Third year is (“leap”) the focus is now on absorbing sufficient nutrients to fuel rapid growth. Abundance and significant growth are now noticeable. Everything has successfully adapted to its new journey and is now thriving, reaching its full potential and establishing itself.
Or in this case, might we consider the above as our own upcoming “stages of growth” to set for Epiphany with our next shepherd for reestablishing this Little White Church on the Corner of the last 105 years?!
God grant us the patience to work together, to bring us all together as the Epiphany family that we are. Let us work together with understanding and compassion in our hearts for unity among us and it will remain. Amen.
What’s Happening!
Thank you to Angie and Jimmy Kellam for the magnolia leaves cleanup. That Grand lady is a stunning feature on Epiphany’s property, but she surely makes us work for her beauty. (19) 55-gallon bags later – all cleaned up.
The painting of the parish hall is complete and put back together. Thank you to the paint crew of John Greene, Kevin LaPointe and Marcia Cronin for your time and hard work. Looks great.
The Annual Fall Yard Sale is just around the bend on October 18th from 7 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The last day for items – please – will be Sunday Oct. 12th.
Yard Sale Bake Sale – Please see Joyce or Mary. Items are needed from our wonderful bakers of those goodies that sell quite well every year.
Soup Sale @ the Yard Sale. This year soups/stews were chosen as last year’s Italian choice did quite nicely. Pint frozen servings of: Chicken Corn Chowder; Beef and Cabbage; Chili; South India Mulligatawny; Brunswick Stew: all @ 5.00 per pint. She Crab @ 7.00 pint.
Wes & Molly will be heading up the kitchen. Grilled Cheese; Hot Dog; Burger; BBQ. Also, a limited pot of hot Brunswick Stew. Also, chips, soda and Iced Tea are available.
Sleepers in September continues its run through the month of October. This program that Kathy Moore has been a part of for many years collects sleepers and sleep sacks that support Safe Sleep practices for babies in need so they can maintain a safe and healthy temperature. See Kathy Moore for more information @ kmoore1234@cox.net or on a Sunday service that she is present. The folks of Epiphany have supported this cause over the last 10 years quite successfully. Thank you in advance.
Candy Drive for Halloween Our favorite in-house Witchy-Poo Ariel will be handing out candy and blankets to the neighborhood kiddies as she has for numerous years. Donations of candy are always appreciated. A tote will be placed in the Narthex on Oct. 12th for collecting. Thank you.
Blessings of the Pets Sunday Oct. 5th @ 10:00 service. All pets should be leashed or contained for safety. Mary Evelyn will be making a dog ingredient friendly treat for the pupsters.
