November 2025
Welcome November and all it has to offer. Just a day ago we started off with what I call “The Marathon.” From October to January, it is celebration after wonderful celebration. Starting off with Halloween, then Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, New Years and Epiphany. It is a haul of time. Something sweet though occurs in November.
THE TREES ARE ABOUT TO SHOW US HOW BEAUTIFUL IT IS TO LET SOME THINGS GO.
Let’s touch base with the recent Gospel story of Luke 18:1-8. Jesus tells a story so that we might pray always and not lose heart. Honestly, that kind of hits different right now because there are a lot of things in the world that make us want to lose heart, a lot that makes us feel small, unheard, unseen.
So Jesus gives this story about a widow and a judge. The judge doesn’t care about God or people. He has power, he has position, he has control and the widow, well she has nothing, no title, no leverage, no money. Except…she refuses to disappear. She just keeps showing up day after day, voice shaking, heart burning, saying “Do what’s right”, and eventually even the corrupt man cracks, not because he’s good but because the widow won’t let go and she won’t go away.
Jesus tells us that’s what faith looks like. Not calm, not polite, not passive, persistent because every ” Thy kingdom come” is an act of resistance, a refusal to let injustice have the last word: it’s a way of saying there’s a better kingdom than this one.
Prayer isn’t weakness: it’s protest with your soul; it’s how you stay human when the world constantly tries to dehumanize. But the story isn’t just about our persistence, it’s about God’s because, before we even show up, God was already working, already listening, already tearing down the powers that think they are permanent. So, if you are tired of praying, you are not failing, you’re feeling what faith costs. Don’t stop showing up because every act of hope, every stubborn prayer joins you to the God who refuses to quit on this world & that kind of persistence changes things.
We love all and all are called to serve God. Bishops are symbols of our unity, connected across time and space directly to Jesus. They are part of the emblem in our living existence that God is with us in mysterious ways through all these relationships and because in Baptism we get to begin with the opening acclimation, “There is one Lord, one faith, one hope in God to us all.” Hope – hope, my friends – it is a powerful thing. We are beloved, we are made in God’s image to shine, to light up the world with the uniqueness of each person, so let us, all of us, be our world’s hope.
In appreciation to my brothers in Christ, Joe Yoo and Mac Brown, for inspiration.

Happenings around Epiphany
First and foremost, as we don’t want you to be late for church! Turn back your clocks one hour on tonight, Saturday evening, November 1st.
The annual Fall Yard Sale was held on October 18th. We couldn’t have asked for any better weather than what we had, as well the turnout of shoppers. The number of wonderful items overwhelmed the tables. To all who took part leading up as well the sale day, Thank You. To each of those who volunteered, Thank You. The success of the day depended on each of you and what a success it was, with a record-breaking day taking of roughly $ 3500.00.
If you thought that the yard sale news was deserving of applause, here is another that should bring a standing ovation:
The Church of Epiphany – this wonderful Little White Church on the Corner – has a Clergy-in-Charge. We will introduce Deacon Anne Zobel on November 23rd. The following week on the 30th, Deacon Anne will vest & serve with The Rev. Canon Win Lewis. The contractual start date is December 1, 2025. The ordination date of Deacon Anne to the priesthood has been scheduled for Wednesday December 17th @ 6:00 p.m. & will be held here at Epiphany.
The 28 months without a priest-in-charge may seem like a long time, but we are blessed, because other churches have been in that position for years and I hope we continue to keep them in prayer, asking for the Holy Spirit to lead and guide the way for each of them, as has been done with our Epiphany.
Vestry nominations open this Sunday, November 2nd. Election and Congregational Meeting will be held on November 16th.
The Angel Tree for the Tucker House residents will go up on November 23rd. Thank you in advance to Joan Feret for making the tree tags: they were lovely last year. Please have your tree tags back by Sunday, December 7th, if possible.
The Tucker House Christmas Luncheon will be held on December 14th. Any questions, please see Carol Fernandez.
The Chrismon Tree will be up on November 23rd and ready for decorating on November 30th – the beginning of Advent. Please join us in decorating this lovely tradition of ole.
