August 2024
The month that brings us the dog days of Summer: oh-joy!
The month that has us beginning to wish for Fall weather.
The month that gardeners get weepy eyed as their favorite plants turn brown and wither away, and, yes, already have their eyes on what Fall plants will be moving into those gardens and pots. (They were picked out in the Spring.đ)
Yes, here we are heading into mid-summer with a reminder that these lazy, hazy days will be changing without effort as we start prepping for the next season and its events.
Epiphanyâs seasons of change continue as well. Next week will be a year since Richard transitioned into partial retirement, and here we find ourselves holding steady and quite strong with the Holy Spirit at our backs. Though we have no news to share of a new priest or a team of priests to settle in with us, we have been blessed in having one each Sunday with the exception of two. Many of you like the âcarousel pulpitâ with different voices and views of the good word, but, yes, we would prefer to have someone to call Epiphany his or her home. We will continue our call to work towards growth, creation and reestablishing Epiphanyâs journey and rise with each choice and chance we take. Unforeseen turns that test us, experiences that enrich us and help us to rise higher when our goals seem too distant, can allow us to bloom in ways that we never realized. Keep the faith.
YARD & BAKE SALE
At present, Wes & Molly will be handling the kitchen. The menu will be lunch items. Joyce and Mary Evelyn will handle the Bake Sale: if anyone else is interested, please join in. Blake and Lynne will handle the Plant Sale and help with advance pricing with Carter. Carter continues to look for a team: please let him know if you are interested. Items for the yard sale may be brought in at any time.
ROOF FUNDRAISER
In just a few weeks, we have raised $5,264 of the $9,600 goal set. We have also been receiving additional funds to the R&R account that will also be added to the goal mark.
Thank you to all that have answered the call for help. Mike Diaz will be scheduling with the contractor.
UNFORESEENS
The sump pump decided to go south in the basement, causing a problem with proper drainage from the cooling system and leaving one side of the sanctuary with no AC. Thank you, Kevin, for getting the problem cleared up.
The AC upstairs, that is typically not used, also decided to get an attitude. Replacing of a burnt wire and a blown capacitor and some freon was needed. Thanks to Thurman Blevin, who takes care of our systems, we are back up and running.
VESTRY
Treasurer Nancy Reynolds has reported that we are doing good but are in the red presently for around $7,700. That is mainly due to beginning of the year costs, i.e. parish hall roof, tree trimming and removal & some other repairs this spring, etc.. Pledges are on balance & the vestry thanks each of you for that.
A couple more money counters would be nice.
2025 VESTRY OPENINGS
Hereâs your chance to sit on the 2nd Thursday of each month with a meal @ 6:30 p.m. and meeting @ 7:00 to help guide, lead and guard your âfavoriteâ church. There will be 3 openings. Thanks in advance.
OTHER STUFF
It has been way too hot to expect anyone to chip away at the outdoor cleanup list. So, when youâre bored (and can tolerate the weather), pop by the church, have a look see at the list and have at it. Thanks.
We continue averaging 35 attending our service weekly. đ
Fellowship after service has been quite nice with good eats, conversation and laughter. The sign-up board is on the door of the corner hutch in the parish hall.
We are Epiphany proud!

âAugust is the slow, gentle month that stretches out the longest across the span of a year. It yawns and lingers on with the light in its palms.â – Victoria Erickson
