This week, Joe Ritchie performs "Ding! Dong! Merrily on High/Go Tell It on the Mountain" (arrangement by Mark Hayes).
Joe chose to combine these two Christmas carols based on their celebration of Christ's birth. "Ding Dong Merrily on High" sings his praises through the text of Glory! Hosanna in the Highest while the carol "Go Tell It on the Mountain" states that we should celebrate Christ by letting everyone from the hills to the valleys that he has been born.

This week, Joe Ritchie performs "We Three Kings of Orient Are" (arrangement by Jay Rouse). This popular Christmas carol was written and composed by John Henry Hopkins, Jr. originally for a Christmas pageant in New York City. As you listen to this arrangement imagine the three Magi in the far off distance coming closer and closer to see the newborn king. Once there, they celebrate his glory and then once again travel back to their homeland. Enjoy! -

This week, Joe Ritchie performs "Joy to the World!" (arrangement by Jay Rouse). One of the most popular Christmas Carols, "Joy to the World!" was written by Isaac Watts with the tune attributed to George Frideric Handel. In this arrangement, there is a sense of jubilation from the constant eighth note pattern and surprise syncopation that occurs near the end of the piece that calls us to to celebrate Christ's coming. This week, Joe Ritchie performs "What Child is This?" (arrangement by Mark Hayes). What Child is This? is set to the tune of "Greensleeves", a traditional English folk song with the lyrics written in 1865 by William Chatterton Dix. The carol is more popular in the United States than in Great Britain where it was written. Enjoy! -

This week, Joe Ritchie performs "Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus/Angels We Have Heard on High" (arrangement by Jay Rouse). During Advent we anticipate the coming of Jesus through this hymn knowing that He will reign forever and one day raise us up to his glorious throne. As you listen you will hear the strains of Gloria in Excelsis Deo weaved throughout expressing the adoration that we have for his coming. Enjoy!
