March 2025
…With longer days and shorter nights, the wayward winds of March take flight. Four winds she holds within her grip, then hurls them from her fingertip…
– Patricia L. Cisco
MARCH IS THE TUMULTUOUS MONTH that represents progression from winter to spring. The battle heats up enough from the more direct light to cause fluctuations with the high- & low-pressure areas – thus causing our winds. Trees are bare and with no buffer the winds roar through like a locomotive. We find ourselves cleaning up plenty of dead branches, twigs etc. in March because of her winds. It’s Mother Nature’s Spring cleaning to prepare the trees for the blooming of their canopies.
There are 31 fickle days of March: will the winds of March enter and end like a lamb or lion – this we shall see. However, there is a different interpretation to that old proverb. The constellation Leo, the Lion, rises in the east at the beginning of March. Thus, the month “comes in like a lion,” while Aries, the ram, sets in the west at the end of the month, therefore, “the month goes out like a lamb.”
March is named after the Roman god of war, Martius. It was also the first month of the year until 450 BCE when January and February were moved in the Roman calendar as the 1st & 2nd months thus making March our 3rd month.
I Martius am! Once first, and now the third!
To lead the Year was my appointed place;
A mortal dispossessed me by a word,
And set there Janus with the double face…
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow – (1807-1882)
March 2025
- 4th – Mardi Gras – Fat Tuesday – Shrove Tuesday. Last feasting day before Lent.
- 5th – Ash Wednesday – Start of Lent.
- 8th – International Women’s Day. A day that not only celebrates the achievements of women and the progress made towards women’s rights but also brings attention to the ongoing struggles for equality around the world.
- 9th – Daylight Savings Time begins – “Spring forward!”
- 17th – St. Patrick’s Day. Wearing of the green and a shamrock. The shamrock represents the trinity in St. Patrick’s teachings.
- 20th – March equinox – the beginning of Spring. On this day the sun stands directly over the Earth’s equator. The full moon, the Worm Moon, reaches its peak illumination on Friday morning, March 14th. Look for it beginning the evening of the 13th, as the moon rises above the horizon.
- March’s birth flower is the Daffodil or Jonquil and signifies regard or unrequited love, as well renewal, hope and new beginnings.
- Birthstone of March is the Aquamarine. This gem is a type of beryl: its color ranges from pale to dark blue, greenish-blue, or blue green. The spiritual meaning includes a connection to the ocean (sailors carried it for protection), inner peace and healing.
- Zodiac signs are:
- Pisces – creative, sensitive and in tune with others’ emotions. From the Greek myth of Aphrodite and Eros, who transformed into fish to escape a monster.
- Aries – bold, confident and energetic. In Greek Mythology, the symbol of the ram is based on the Chrysomallus, the flying ram that rescued Phrixus and Helle, the children of the Boeotian king Athamas and provided the Golden Fleece.
- March’s theme for scripture quotes is “Confession and Forgiveness.” This month typically aligns with the Christian season of Lent, in which we are called to repent and spiritually prepare for the celebration of Easter and Christ’s resurrection.
The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
2 Peter 3:9
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38
Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
Who Are We To Withhold Forgiveness If Jesus Offered It Freely?
